In a prominent location on the banks of the River Teign at the edge of the picturesque coastal village of Shaldon, the site is highly visible from the busy Shaldon Bridge road adjacent, as well as in the wider landscape context.
There is a Village Green at the heart of the site to counter the water frontage and introduce an internal focus as well as aiding pedestrian and vehicular circulation and creating a pleasant public open space.
From the outset a positive working relationship was established with the village community and developed to determine the views and expectations of the community and to actively engage them in the design decision process. The final result is a scheme that has benefited enormously from this process, not only being accepted by the local community, but enthusiastically welcomed by them. The new scheme blends in perfectly in this very sensitive context providing important and valuable new housing whilst preserving the unique and distinctive character of the original village.
