The South Gate development has been recognised nationally as an exemplar project demonstrating the successful collaboration between the Local Authority, community group and private developer. After winning the prestigious National Design Awards the judges commented that “the range of private outdoor spaces, shared public spaces and good sized dwellings with sections designed to maximise views suggests the scheme will deal easily with the higher density needed to get the the extra homes demanded … It is the very kind of housing project that Totnes requires – maintaining the districts character and helping to provide much needed quality affordable housing … It means attractive places with a mixture of size and tenure, high environmental standards and green spaces too.”
