On the site of the former Postal Sorting Office in the middle of Salcombe, planning permission was granted following intense negotiation with the local planning authority and neighbours.
Access in Salcombe is difficult and parking a premium, and so the excavation of a thousand tonnes of rock on a tight site in Salcombe was interesting for all concerned!
Due to the value of parking spaces, it was agreed with the Local Authority and Highways Association to install a vehicle turntable, which has proved very successful.
The houses to the rear of the site have a maritime weatherboarded aesthetic whilst the commercial units and apartments, which line the main street, have a more traditional character to the streetscape. Internally the furniture has been designed to have a maritime feel utilising built-in furniture and joinery reminiscent of a gentleman’s launch.
